When Andrew Carnegie selected architect Henry Hornbostel to design a technical school in the late 1890s, the plan was for the layout of the buildings to form an “explorer’s ship” in search of knowledge. The helm of the ship was Machinery Hall. You might know it now as Hamerschlag Hall, renamed after Arthur A.
